Goal #3

Goal 3: Scan old family pictures and copy them to discs for family members

After my grandfather passed away, my grandmother decided to move into an assisted living apartment, which meant she had to greatly downsize her belongings. "Dividing" things up between the family was a fairly easy task as my grandparents had a huge list of the belongings in their house, and who would get what.

For example I got my grandparents antique bedroom set (the first one they bought as a married couple) and my brother got my grandfather's leather chair. My cousin wanted their old record player, my Aunt and Uncle the clock that plays the Westminster Chimes. The list went on and on for pages. While it sucked making the list, I thank my grandparents for getting it done. Things surely would have been more difficult if they hadn't.

The one thing which hasn't been easy is dividing up photographs, especially the old ones. The last time I was visiting my grandmother I "borrowed" the remaining boxes of pictures which hadn't been divided yet. My goal is to scan them all and get them on disc for each member of the family. This should help alleviate some of the fighting, at least I hope. My plan is to also put some of my favorite photos together into a book for Christmas gifts - which should be much easier now that i have a Mac! Wish me luck!

Here is an example of a photo I scanned over the weekend. It is from my Grandfather's College Graduation (Penn State!!) in 1939.

  1. Very cool! I love old photos. Isn't it funny to think that one day people might look at OUR photos with the same sense of wonder?

I have an old photograph of my grandparents that I absolutely LOVE. I've been meaning to do a blog post about it for a while now, but I haven't gotten around to it. I should get on that!

  2. I love old photos too. I actually think my love of photography stems from my grandfather (a post for another day). I hope you post the one of your grandparents soon!

  3. What a great picture! And what an incredible gift to your family. This reminds me, not only do I need to scrapbook my old photos, I need to scan to preserve as well. You are brilliant! ;)
